From baby room to children's room

June 30, 2022 5 min read

No matter how small your baby is when he or she starts, they grow quickly and before you know it he or she is ready for his or her own children's room!

Changing from a nursery to a nursery or toddler's room can be fun but also challenging. You want to create a space that is both fun and functional for your little one, without losing sight of safety. Here are tips to make the transition smooth. Here is my personal story about how I did that, and ideas and tips for the nursery.

When is your toddler ready for a new children's room with toddler bed?

This can be very personal and there are many different reasons why you want to make this transition. The main reason is the safety consideration. If they start climbing over the bars of their cot, sleeping in a toddler bed becomes dangerous. Another reason is, for example, that you no longer use your changing table. Or the cot moves on to a younger sibling, causing the eldest to go to a toddler bed. Another possibility is that your child simply outgrows the 120x60 cot. He or she still fits in the baby cot, but this is actually not really comfortable anymore. For me personally, I was pregnant with my second child and I wanted to decorate the baby's room. As a result, the furniture shifted, and my oldest son was ready for a toddler's room.

At what age does your toddler go from a nursery to a nursery?

Many parents turn the baby's room into a toddler bed when their son or daughter is two to 3.5 years old. Our son was 2.5 years old, but if I didn't have a second child on the way, I had waited until he was really potty trained. The most important thing is that you think your child is ready. Around this age, they also develop other interests! The bed that was there used to be very cute, but now your child is ready for a room where you can also play. It's time to turn that cute baby room into a funnursery toddler.

Whether or not there is a changing table in your toddler's room

Is your child potty trained? Then you no longer have to put a changing table in the children's room. Is your child not potty trained yet? Then it is useful to still have this. Especially if you are pregnant with your second child, it is nice for your back to still use a changing table.

From changing table to children's desk

Do you need the changing table for your toddler? Then this is the best ikea hack for a children's room. Choose a babywoods wall dress. Use it first as a changing table, and hang it at hip level. Is your toddler potty trained? Then hang it a little lower on the wall and add a stool. You can transform the changing table into a children's desk in no time. A perfect piece of furniture for a toddler's room, for a child who is not yet potty trained.

If your toddler is already potty trained, choose the TIny Desk Original . This handy children's desk is foldable. Is the desk used a little less, or do you want to have everything cleaned up? Or do you need the space for other toys. Then you just flip it up again. A desk in the children's room encourages the child to do something independently. Your toddler can then tinker at his own desk or build something from Lego. Also take a look at the fun toddler stool from Tiny Desk.

Do I choose toddler bed for my toddler?

In the children's room, you will switch from cot to a toddler bed. You have toddler beds in different sizes.

" A toddler bed is different from a junior bed . "

A toddler bed is 70x140 (sometimes 150). This bed is suitable up to an age of 2 to 5 years, depending on the height of your child. A junior bed is suitable from 2 years with the size 80x160. A junior bed is sustainable. Depending on the height of your child, a junior bed is suitable up to the age of 8. I made the sustainable choice for a junior bed myself, because it lasts longer.

This super nice sleeping house is very nice in a new room, and also low to the ground. So your child can't fall out.

Which wardrobe should I choose for my toddler room?

For choosing a wardrobe I can give you the following tips. Number 1 the available space, go up. Make use of the available space as much as possible. Number two, go for a timeless closet so that the closet can last in any future style of the room. Number three, the inside of the closet. Do you have the idea that your child hangs everything neatly on a hanger? Then choose hanging space. Otherwise, choose drawers or shelves. Number four are you going for drawers or doors? Drawers can be neatly placed in rooms. Doors take up a lot of space. But if you take sliding doors, you have solved that disadvantage.

A wardrobe is a piece of furniture that you use every day. I have therefore opted for a high-quality piece of furniture. Remember that your child will eventually want to dress himself. Then he must also be able to open and close the cabinet himself. A children's closet for your toddler should be spacious so that all your little one's clothes and things can be neatly stored in it.

You're probably in the process of transitioning from nursery to toddler room. Hopefully I have been able to answer all your questions. About why you should do this. Or at what age most parents do. So much can change in a short period of time. As a parent, you sometimes have to switch very quickly. Especially if the safety of your child is at stake. In addition, you have so many choices to make, and what do you do well as a parent? Hopefully I have been able to help you make the right choices for choosing furniture to purchase your children's room in a fun and sustainable way.
